Answer - Salt! This was the photo in my 2002 Christmas card; see further below for my other photo Christmas cards. I love travelling, mountaineering, mountain biking and photography! Here's a map of the countries I've visited.

The salt gatherer cycles every day at 12,000 feet onto the Iyuni salt flats in Bolivia and, in the harsh sun, scrapes up salt to dry and be sold for a tiny profit. I took this photo in May 2002. I also hired a mountain bike in Bolivia and descended nearly 10.000 feet in 4.5 hours from alpine pass to steamy jungle down the world's most dangerous road - it's official!

Below is the photo in my 2003 Christmas card; see further below for my other photo cards.

In October 2000, I trekked to the Southern base camp of Everest [thumbnail further below] and did not see a wheel for eight days since the terrain was so rough. I was therefore amazed to hear that one could cycle to the Northern base camp of Everest - this seemed to me to be 'just round the corner'! I took the photo below in September 2003. This amazing trip also featured the world's longest downhill - over the Himalayas and down into Kathmandu. Click here for some brief trip notes.
